Can a failed or non-energized transformer still be submitted for evaluation?
Yes. A failed, non-energized, incomplete, or uncertain transformer can be submitted; its condition is part of the evaluation. State what happened, the last operating date if known, whether it is disconnected, and which parts remain. Send close photos of the nameplate, bushings, radiators, cabinet, and visible damage. Do not diagnose a unit if uncertain. A concise factual record shows what additional information may be useful and lets the evaluator assess its actual state. Submission does not imply a purchase or pickup commitment.
What should a Maine seller share about an island, remote, or winter-access site?
Lead with the exact location and final approach. Explain whether access involves a ferry, private drive, remote yard, dock, narrow gate, or site escort. Note surface, truck-staging room, known overhead or turning restrictions, and available loading equipment. If snow, mud, frost, seasonal closures, or operating hours affect access, give the preferred window. If it is missing or unreadable, send dimensions, make, model markings, electrical drawings, and photos. Include equipment status, too. Do not disturb components merely to obtain information; report the limitation plainly. Clear records make initial review faster and more accurate.
Can equipment from a closure, upgrade, or renewable-energy project be considered?
Submit equipment that is surplus to its owner’s current need, whether from a closure, upgrade, generator replacement, utility work, or renewable-energy project. Maine’s mix of hydro, wind, solar, forest-products manufacturing, and other industry can yield very different equipment histories. Describe context only as it clarifies ownership, status, energization, and removal timing. Send the nameplate and current site photos before relying on a broad list.
