How to take the photo
- Stand square to the plate rather than at an angle
- Fill the frame while keeping every edge visible
- Use even light and avoid flash glare
- Hold the camera steady and confirm the small rows are readable
- Take a second photo from slightly farther away for context
What buyers look for
Common nameplate fields include manufacturer, serial number, year, kVA or MVA, phase, frequency, primary voltage, secondary voltage, taps, impedance, temperature rise, cooling class, fluid type, total weight, and wiring diagram.
Send more than the plate
The nameplate identifies the design. Current full-unit, interior where safely accessible, damage, accessory, and pickup-site photos show the actual equipment and logistics.
Never open energized equipment
Only photograph areas that are already safely accessible. Do not remove covers, break seals, disconnect wiring, or enter restricted electrical spaces for a quote.
